14 Things You Can Do to Become a More Spiritual Person

First, you don’t have to be religious to be a spiritual person.

Spirituality means something different for every person.

For some, it’s primarily about believing in God and actively participating in a religion.

For others, it’s about non-religious experiences that help them get in touch with their spiritual selves through silent reflection, time in nature, private prayer, yoga, or meditation.

Many people describe themselves as spiritual, but not religious.

With a few exceptions, the proportion of adults who identify as religious is declining in many more developed countries, while it generally remains high in the less developed countries.

But even if religious affiliation declines, the sense of spiritual identification could remain stable or even increase.

Spirituality has become something of a buzzword in today’s culture, especially for the millennial generation (the people born between 1980 and 2000).

People who call themselves spiritual signal three things:

  1. They believe that there is more to the world than meets the eye, i.e. more than the purely material.
  2. They try to take care of their inner life – their mental and emotional states – in the hope of gaining a certain kind of self-knowledge.
  3. They value the following virtues: compassion, empathy and open-heartedness.

There is no course that can help you become a spiritual person – either you are one or not.

It’s something very personal and everyone feels it differently and individually.

If you are a spiritual person, then you certainly have moments in your life where you are thoughtful and silent for hours or days.

You feel connected to a higher power and try to get answers to your questions.

We have some advice and hints for you on how to be a more spiritual person and thus lead a happier life.

1. Helping other people

When you are a spiritual person, you feel that we should all help each other here on Earth and that we should be there for each other.

This doesn’t mean you should join the Red Cross, it’s about everyday charity and the little things you can do for other people.

Whenever you feel that you have an excess of love within you, try to give it to your fellow human beings.

It’s not meant to be big things, but you can give someone a smile or tell them how good they look today.

Such things give strength: to whom the words are sent and to whom the words have spoken; because I’ve heard from a lot of people that they feel better when they give something than when they take something.

Good-naturedness carries a lot of power in it.

2. Learn self-love

Spirituality is about being kind and caring enough to connect with the love, peace, and joy of the Spirit.

To achieve this, we should first open our hearts and love ourselves, because all of us have wonderful qualities.

Think and try to write down all your qualities that you love and you will see how a wonderful person you are.

3. Spend 15 minutes each morning doing the 555 exercise

555 is a morning mindfulness practice developed by Uma Beepat that can put the mind in a state of spirituality.

It essentially consists of meditating for five minutes, stretching for five minutes, and mentally preparing for the day for five minutes.

4. Learn to forgive

One of the crucial things to grow spiritually is forgiveness.

Here it is not only about forgiving someone else, but also yourself.

We all suffer from trauma, some more and some less.

A person should not experience something very terrible in order to get trauma.

Some people are so sensitive that they experience trauma when someone at the checkout has been rude with them.

Most of all, people should forgive the people who wronged them when they were children because childhood traumas torment our minds.

If you forgive these people, you will feel a relief and begin to live your life more freely without looking back again and again.

Thou shalt also forgive thyself. Don’t be ashamed of something you’ve done in your past because we all make mistakes and will continue to make mistakes in the future.

5. Practice patience

This is about the fact that you can also practice being more spiritual in your everyday life, for example, when you go to work or wait at the counter in the bank.

On days when traffic is terrible, you can use that to your advantage to commit to more patience.

Such small steps that you take every day can make your life easier and provide more inner peace.

6. Always be honest

If you want to reach a higher state of spirituality, you have to keep your aura as pure as possible.

When a person lies, you can see clairvoyantly that gray clouds emanate from the aura.

In order for your aura to remain clear and the light to shine through, you should make sure that you always tell the truth, and small emergency lies are also part of it.

7. Trust your instincts

If someone is successful, you should congratulate them because that person has worked a lot for this cause in the past.

Don’t be jealous of other people because you also have a lot of things that others don’t have and want those things very much.

Envy is a normal human feeling, but you have to fight to turn that feeling into something positive and kind if you want to become a spiritual person.

10. Be open to new experiences

To make your path easier for spirituality, you should be open to new experiences and associated emotions.

You should not be stubborn and closed, but start each new day with the intention of being open and receiving all the inspiration that comes your way.

11. Make a wish list

On your wish list you should not write things that you want to buy, but something that will enrich you mentally.

It’s supposed to be something that promotes your self-love, self-esteem, and self-compassion.

Think and see what you want to change most in your life; what your weaknesses are that keep you going to be a better and happier person.

For example, it can sound like this:

“I wish that I forgive the people who have treated me badly in the past,” or “I wish that I don’t take to my heart everything that others say about me.”

So you should think about what takes away the most of your positive energy and try to change it with this wish list.

12. Enjoy the little things in life

Slowly perceive what you see, hear, smell, feel and taste, and really pay attention to your experiences.

This simple change in attention can boost your sense of happiness and will increase your ability to enjoy pleasant events overall.

It’s about connectedness, which in a sense is spirituality.

13. Meditate

When we meditate or pray, we feel that we are closer to the divine.

We feel like we’re making contact with an energy and being listened to by something supernatural.

It is not easy to meditate, but if you get used to it after some time, you will surely feel many benefits.

So take time for meditation every day.

Initially, it can be five minutes and after that you can leave a little more time for meditation each week.

Maybe in the beginning you won’t clear your head or you will feel uncomfortable sitting in one position for a long time, but after some time it all goes away.

Connect with your heart with the help of meditation and your spiritual path will surely be sprinkled with white roses.

14. Eat healthy

It is not said for nothing else: “You are what you eat.”

What happens in your body has as much influence on your spirituality as what happens outside your body.

With the high-vibrating food-clean, unprocessed foods – we raise the frequency of our body to such an extent that together with our intention to learn about love, we can gain access to our higher personal spiritual guidance.
